UPGRADE INSTRUCTIONS!
Copy ALL of the files in the distribution ZIP into your VRS directory.
Since you are already running a game, do not unzip NEW_VRS.ZIP!
Start up VRS, go to (M)aintenance, then (R)ebuild Configuration Database.
There's a new field in it to put the path (and filename, if you don't
like our default of "VRS.BLT") to your VRS.BLT file. It defaults to the
VRS subdirectory.
That's it!
System Requirements:
You need to have a minimum configuration, namely you have to be running
PCBoard 15.2x. We are compiling VRS with the latest PPLC compiler so you
will need to make sure that you have the latest PCBoard code up and running.
Since VRS is a PPE, it is an extension to PCBoard - if PCBoard runs, VRS
will run. VRS is fully multi-node aware so there are no problems running
multiple copies of VRS at the same time. VRS runs fine under Novell 3.11
and 3.12, Lantastic 5.0 and Banyan Vines. VRS also runs fine under DESQview
(in windows >501k!) and OS/2 (sorry Windows people, I haven't tested it
under Windows, you are on your own).
Basically if PCBoard runs, VRS will run!
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> NETWORK USERS <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<
VRS creates, modifies, and deletes files within the VRS subdirectory.
Your users *MUST* have Creation, Deletion, and Modification rights in
this directory.
Ok, Sysop, just 6 easy steps to get you up and running in about a minute and
a half (Including the time it takes to grab a Coke from the fridge and to
kick your feet up on the desk!)
1. - Create a VRS subdirectory on your hard drive, something like this:
C:\PCB\PPE\VRS
(Note: The path above is only an example, you can install it anywhere
you want)
2. - Unzip the distribution ZIP file into this subdirectory.
3. - Unzip the file called NEW_VRS.ZIP into your VRS Subdir, we store the
database files seperately so that you can do a simple overwrite if
you are upgrading.
4. - Load up PCBSETUP, and locate the CMD.LST file you would like to install
the VRS command into. (Usually the main board, so you would type a B and
then another B, then you would cursor down to where you see the CMD.LST
entry, they you will hit an F2 to edit your CMD.LST file).

Just add the following info and you're almost done!
CMD.LST Editor

══════════════ ═══ ══════════════════ ═══════════════════════════════
1) VRS 0 0 0 C:\PCB\PPE\VRS\VRS.PPS
(Use the drive and dir you put the program in!)
Once you have this entered, hit ESC and Y to save the new CMD.LST file.
You have just finished installing VRS, now let's configure it!
5. - Now logon to your PCB BBS and enter type VRS at the main board command
prompt (or if you decided to install VRS into another conference, join
that conference and then type VRS).
6. - From the main VRS Module you will see a menu selection titled
(M)aintenance - This is a sysop only command, only those people with
sysop security will see it, choose the (M) command, and you will be
brought to the Sysop menu, here choose the (S)ystem editor.
Here you will have 9 menu items, the defaults that come pre-setup are
what we recommend for a fun game, but feel free to change any of them
for your particular circumstances. One that you should not change is
selection number (5), this is a date of the last maintenance it may not
look like a date to you, but to the computer it is! This number will be
updated automatically, so there is *no* need to change it at all.
Important Event Stuff Here!
The last thing you will want to do is to add the maintenance call into one
of your events, this event ought to only run once per day. The call would
look like this:
PCBOARD /PPE:C:\PCB\PPE\VRS\VRS.PPE;MAINT
Or if you are running the PCBOARDM flavor like this:
PCBOARDM /PPE:C:\PCB\PPE\VRS\VRS.PPE;MAINT
THE SEMICOLON IS IMPORTANT!
This will reset all the dead players, update score lists, revitalize those
pesky mutants, and do some stuff that the game needs to have done. If you
do not add this switch, the first player of the day will have to sit through
about 45 seconds of stuff happening, while this is an honor akin to winning
the lottery, it may annoy some players, so your best bet is to add the MAINT
call in your event and forget about it!
Bulletin Generation
To get a full bulletin, ranking all of your players based on Experience and
Kills, add another line in your event that looks like this:
PCBOARD /PPE:C:\PCB\PPE\VRS\VRS.PPE;BLT
Or if you are running the PCBOARDM flavor like this:
PCBOARDM /PPE:C:\PCB\PPE\VRS\VRS.PPE;BLT
THE SEMICOLON IS IMPORTANT! (Again)
This will generate a file called VRS.BLT in your VRS.PPE subdirectory, you
can add this file into your bulletin section so that all of your users can
keep up with what is going on in the VRS world.
Jump into the game and give it a whirl. We are positive that you will love
it, all of our users do!

Registration of Virtual Reality Soldiers:
Whats the cost of this little gem? A mere $20.00 bill, you will trade us
one thin piece of paper (intrinsically worthless), for the license to run
this mind bogglingly fun game on your BBS for your users, We would not
hesitate to think that you would probably pick up new users just because
you offer activities of this quality on your system.
Ok, there are several ways to get your registration number for this program
the first and fastest way is to call up our support board.
Once on-line, type KEY, this will enter in to our on-line order
program, it will ask for the usual name and address info, it will then ask
which program you want to register, choose VRS. You will then have an
invoice, and a key file generated for you, download both, install the key
file into your VRS directory, and write us a check.
Whats this? Get the KEY file, then write you a check? Isn't that backwards?
Well, for most software companies it is, but we have been working on the
honor system for about a 3 years now, and the response has been great, it
really restores our faith in human beings when we see people sending in
checks *after* they get their KEY files. We do have some people who steal
from us, but they usually find out that that does not pay. When you are
generating your own KEY files, please notice that we have many exciting
products for PCB, and those products were made possible by all of you sending
in those checks. A good thing to keep in mind!
